A little bit about Avaganda Africa Restaurant & Cafe
Avaganda Africa Restaurant and Cafe is owned by Piet and Susan Nel who have made New Zealand their new home, embracing the fresh produce NZ has to offer to make authentic traditional African and South African meals.
Now located on The Strand in Whakatane, the restaurant and cafe has a African decor theme.
We are a family restaurant and children are well looked after with toys and a kiddies menu available.
We specialize in out catering whether it is for a few for lunch, 200 for a wedding or 20 for finger food to impress the boss. We will cater according to your ideas and budget and can deliver. We will even take the pressure off you and come and make an exquisite meal at the venue of your choice. Cutlery and crockery included. No washing up, no stress, just a meal well presented.

Group Functions - Private function venue
Avaganda Africa Can seat 36 and up to 40 people for group functions. The inside lends itself well to conferences and group functions. We can present you with Buffets, Barbeques Informal or Formal, sit down Dinners or Lunches. Each function menu is created to suit the occasion and the client. If you are a group bigger than 30 people we will close the restaurant for geneal public during your function.

Ava is the slang word for ‘have’ and ganda means ‘look’. Put the two together and you get ‘have a look’. Also with being located at the White Goose Winery, gander also means ‘goose’. So come and have a ganda at Avaganda and see for yourself the wonderful delights we have to offer.
