Life Education Trust 'Fight for Life Ed'
Let's get ready to rumble... MOVE over, David Tua … the Eastern Bay’s boxing talent is ready to step into the ring. Local identities are volunteering to glove up and put their bodies on the line … all for a good cause.
Ten fights will feature on the card at the Whakatane War Memorial Centre on September 11, 2010.
Proceeds will go to replacing the trust’s car and truck. The trust runs a mobile classroom that visits primary and intermediate schools teaching children about how their bodies work, healthy eating and respect so that they can make the right decisions and avoid problems with alcohol and drugs.

National Woodskills Festival
Entry forms are now online at www.kaweraudc.co.nz for the National Woodskills competition to be held September 10-12 as part of the annual Woodfest. There are some new categories this year, including Wearable Wood and novice for newbies to the art of wood crafting. Overall there are 10 categories with more than $20,000 in prize money to be won.

Norske Skog Mountain Race
Not for the faint hearted. This is a gruelling 8 km race to the summit of Putauaki - 852 metres above sea level. Some athletes will complete this within an unbelievable 60 minutes. Relay competitions between local primary schools are held earlier in the day. The contest for the Prince and Princess of the Mountain commences at 11 am. Bay of Plenty Energy Toi's Challenge
The popular Bay of Plenty Electricity's 'Toi's Challenge' running and walking event takes place in Whakatane during November each year. The event takes in one of world's most scenic multi terranin routes - Nga Tapuwae o Toi (in the footsteps of Toi). The 18.5km kilometre course captures the essence of the Whakatane district and includes sea cliffs, Ohope Beach and native bush.
