The Easter school holidays are finally here, and if you’re wondering how to keep the kids busy, don’t stress, we’ve got you covered. Whakatane is full of things to do, so you don’t need to plan every single day down to the minute.

If you’re after a bit of structure or something really fun there's loads to do. A cosy day at the movies at WhakaMAX is always a winner. The kids can watch the latest family-friendly films, and you get a chance to sit back with some popcorn while they enjoy the show. For older kids and teens, Epic Escape is heaps of fun, the escape rooms and VR adventures get them thinking, laughing, and working together, and it’s a nice mix of excitement while lplaying and learning.

If your kids love action, District 4 Paintball is a brilliant choice. It’s safe and supervised, but still gets their hearts racing and is such a great way for the older kids to burn off energy. Or for something a little quirky, Awakeri Rail Adventures is always a hit. Kids adore hopping on the rail carts and exploring the countryside, and adults can enjoy the scenic views too. And for the little train enthusiasts, River Edge Park Miniature Railway is perfect, they can “drive” the tiny trains while everyone enjoys a relaxed outing.

Of course, not every day needs to be packed with paid activities. Some of our favourite ways to keep the kids entertained for free include heading to the Whakatane Library for storytime, crafts, and imaginative activities, exploring local parks and beaches with a picnic or bikes, and checking out markets and community events for a casual, relaxed outing.

Honestly, with so many adventures on offer, the Easter school holidays are the perfect time to get the kids exploring, playing, and making memories that will stick long after the break. Just get out there, have some laughs, and enjoy the holiday together!
