Kawerau Secure Storage is a purpose built, high security complex that opened on June 1st 2005, initially with one building containing a total of 52 units of various sizes. The Kawerau Secure Storage site is enclosed by a 20-wire commercial electric fence that is also alarmed. The alarms are monitored 24 hours and a security contractor patrols the site nightly and on weekends. There are 8 cameras covering both the interior and exterior of the facility. The electronic gate can only be operated by cardholders and a computer record is kept of everyone who enters the site and also their departure times.
