Following the success of the recent traffic flow trial at the Landing Road Bridge, Whakatane, the teardrop roundabout shape is to be reinstated. This will take effect from 7am on Friday 9 December 2016.
Only traffic entering the roundabout across the bridge from SH30 will be able to turn onto Landing Road. The trial was undertaken to find a way of easing the additional traffic congestion expected during the three month Peketahi Bridge closure, which will see all State Highway 2 traffic rerouted through Whakatane from mid-February 2017.
From Friday 9 December, CBD bound motorists on Landing Road are asked to use Eivers Road and Peace Street. Hinemoa Street motorists are asked to detour via Valley Road/Commerce Street or to use either James Street or Victoria Ave, King Street and Domain Road.
