A special event is taking place in Whakatāne CBD this Thursday as HMNZS Matataua, a Royal New Zealand Navy unit, marks 10 years of its Freedom of the District Charter.

The parade will start at Mataatua Reserve and travel through Muriwai Drive and The Strand, finishing at Margaret Mahy Court. Locals are welcome to step outside and watch this rare and significant occasion. A rolling road closure will be in place during the parade.
