The much loved screening event, The Big Bike Film Night, returns in 2026 to deliver another unforgettable evening of cycling inspired cinema.

The Big Bike Film Night brings together the best cycling short films from around the world, created to entertain, inspire, and celebrate life on two wheels.

The Whakatane screening will be held at Whakamax Cinema, located at 99 The Strand, Whakatane 3120.

Audiences can enjoy around two and a half hours of engaging bike films filled with action, humour, emotion, and inspiration. The programme is thoughtfully curated for cycling enthusiasts of all kinds and is designed to delight anyone who loves bikes and the stories behind them.

The 2026 film collection includes a breathtaking mountain bike journey through Norway under the midnight sun, a powerful story of two women cycling to every ski field in New Zealand, and a raw look at riding through extreme wet weather conditions. Viewers will also enjoy a playful exploration of creative cycling culture, an inspiring story of resilience and adaptive design following life changing injury, and a moving father and son journey centred on learning to ride together. The programme also features a bold environmental challenge as an adventure activist attempts to break a 24 hour Guinness World Record in downhill mountain biking to support reforestation near Queenstown. Rounding out the night is a charming and nostalgic underdog story set on the iconic slopes of Mont Ventoux in southern France.

These films remind us why we ride, sharing stories that entertain, challenge, and motivate us to get back on our bikes while celebrating the joy, adventure, and freedom that cycling brings.

The New Zealand national tour is proudly presented by Cycle Journeys, Destination Queenstown, and Lake Wanaka Tourism.

Ticket holders also have the chance to enter the Big Bike Film Night national competition. Thanks to presenting partner Cycle Journeys, one lucky winner will receive a day ride for two on the Kawatiri Coastal Trail, including one night of accommodation in Westport with breakfast.
