The Whakatane Slot Car Club recently hosted the first interclub enduro slot car race, bringing together competitors from Whakatane, Omokoroa, and Te Awamutu.
The five-hour endurance event saw teams race 1/32 scale GT3 cars, with only brief 75-second breaks allowed for driver and controller changes. The format tested both consistency and teamwork over the marathon run.
Results:
First Place: Whakatane 1 (Malcolm Salisbury, Wiel Jungmans, Nick Harrington, Les Jones) – SRT Viper, 1850.75 laps
Second Place: Omokoroa – Corvette C8R, 1748.57 laps
Third Place: Whakatane 2 (Wayne Bishop, Peter Mitchell, Maurice Tooke, John Langley) – SRT Viper, 1695.35 laps
Fourth Place: Te Awamutu – Honda NSX, 1661.87 laps
To put the distance in perspective, the winning team’s laps equalled driving from Whakatane to Matata.
The event was enjoyed by all clubs, strengthening connections within the wider slot car community. Plans are already underway for future interclub events.
